About Us

Beyond the Scrubs is a safe and empowering community created to support Black students pursuing nursing at every stage of their journey. From high school, pre-nursing students and new graduate nurses, our mission is to provide mentorship, guidance, leadership development, and meaningful connections that inspire confidence and success in healthcare for women that look like us.

We believe nursing is more about scrubs, exams, and clinicals — it is about purpose, community, representation, and creating a lasting impact. In the United States, Black nurses only make up approximately 8.6% to 11.6% of the nurse workforce while White nurses make up about 67% to 76.6%. The gap is significant and we are severely lacking in representation. As a result, we feel small. Inferior. Not taken as seriously. We have to work twice as hard to be noticed, which ultimately effects patient care.

Beyond the Scrubs was founded on the belief that future Black nurses deserve spaces where we feel seen, heard, supported, and respected. Through mentorship programs, networking opportunities, educational resources, panels, wellness initiatives, and community events, we aim to bridge gaps in representation while cultivating the next generation of compassionate and confident healthcare professionals.

At Beyond the Scrubs, we are building more than future nurses — we are building legacy, leadership and community.

Because the future of nursing looks like us.
